Ashley Cain completing mammoth ride to raise funds

Sadly, in April this year, Ashley Cain and Safiyya Vorajee lost their eight-month-old daughter Azaylia to acute myeloid leukaemia. Yet, from such hardship the duo wanted to help others and so launched The Azaylia Foundation in memory of their daughter.

Speaking to The Sun, Ashley explained, “This will be the most traumatic and terrible journey for so many people. We want to honour Azaylia’s legacy to help others. This is about getting children and their families through the worst time of their lives. These cancers are only rare because no one is talking about them and raising awareness. We have a new purpose in life. Helping other children in Azaylia’s name means more to us than the air in our lungs.”

As well as awareness, Ashley and Safiyya aim to raise money to fund further research after Azaylia had to be treated with drugs used for adults. Ashley is currently undertaking a mammoth 1000 mile cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats, calling at his hometown of Nuneaton on day five of the charity ride. Ashley is completing this ride with his brother Matt Moore. So far, huge crowds have gathered at the end point of each of the days of the ride.

The couple had used GoFundMe whilst Azaylia was battling cancer to raise money to allow Azaylia to receive life-saving treatment in Singapore. Over one million pounds was raised in less than 24 hours but unfortunately, Azaylia was unable to have the treatment. Ashley and Safiyya have used the 1.6 million raised through the GoFundMe account to launch the Azaylia Foundation. The Azaylia Foundation have pledged to continue to support and offer a chance of life to children fighting to beats the odds against cancer. They will work with the community to make a positive impact, providing funds to families fundraising for treatment not readily available on the NHS as well as working with families to fund and deliver magical experiences aimed at bringing positivity and smiles into the daily lives of children fighting this disease.

On the foundation’s launch day, £20,000 was donated to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital where Azaylia received treatment.
